The contract for the €9.8 million project to improve Tseriou Street in Strovolos was awarded to Cyfield Ltd, which submitted the most economically advantageous bid. The unanimous decision was made by the Tender Board at a meeting on April 23, 2024, as announced by the Municipality of Strovolos.

According to the announcement, the construction work will take 104 weeks from the start date. The total cost of the project is €9,836,275.20, excluding VAT. The project, following a Cabinet decision, will be carried out as an urban development, with the cost shared 80% by the state and 20% by the Municipality of Strovolos.

The Municipality of Strovolos mentioned that preparations are underway to minimize traffic disruptions during construction, in collaboration with the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works, Alexis Vafeades, and the Police. The successful bidder is expected to submit a work plan based on the tender documents.

The project was redesigned after a series of requests from residents and a decision by the Municipal Council, with the assistance of the internationally recognized firm Andreas Markides Associates. The project covers 2.20 km of Tseriou Street and 1.20 km on adjacent roads. It includes 2.00-3.00 meter-wide sidewalks on each side, a drainage system to prevent flooding, undergrounding of all utilities, and telecommunication services.

Additionally, 275 new parking spaces, 18 new pedestrian crossings, 14 bus stops, and 530 sidewalk basins for planting tall trees will be created. The goal is to reduce the heat island effect and collect CO2.

The Municipality of Strovolos stated that the project aims to improve road safety and maintain the street's commercial appeal without compromising the local character for the sake of cars and high speeds, giving priority to pedestrians over vehicles.
